Discounting company takeovers, second-life service vehicles are rare but not unheard of. The latest example is Ford Fiesta van LL17TXN, which is now with Falcon Buses and was photographed at their Byfleet base on 8th June 2025. The blue skirt is a hint to its previous role as fleetnumber 8427F with LUL. The red stripe and lettering has been removed, and it now has Falcon logos on the sides. This vehicle illustrates a problem we have in obtaining information about service vehicles. In the absence of official information, we rely a lot on DVLA data, including dates of V5Cs. These are normally issued each time a vehicle changes hands, but can also be issued for other reasons. With 8427F, a new V5C was issued in May 2022, from which we deduced that the van had been withdrawn. However, it was then seen still in service with LUL. Even stranger, we now know that it has definitely left the LUL fleet, yet it has not had a new V5C or a change of licensing date. Perhaps it is still owned by the same leasing company?
